PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – A day after knocking off the top team in the country, OSU picked up its first loss of the tournament, falling 4-3 to Fresno State on Friday.
The Bulldogs only scored on one inning in the game, but that proved to be enough.
Fresno State loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning and then use two doubles to drive in four runs and take a 4-0 lead.
Oklahoma State had to wait until the top of the fourth inning to get on the board as Julie Ward knocked in a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Shortstop Chelsea Garcia added a solo home run in the seventh inning, but that was all the Cowgirls could muster and the comeback attempt fell short.
Simone Freeman got the start in the circle for OSU, throwing four inning and giving up six hits and four runs and striking out five. She fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss.
Michelle Moses got the win for Fresno State (5-0), throwing the whole game and striking out 13.
OSU (10-3) will finish up action in the Cathedral City Classic on Saturday as it takes on Massachusetts at 3:30 p.m. and finishes with Long Beach State at 8:30 p.m.
