TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles improved to 2-3 on the season after opening a three-game series against SIU-Edwardsville with a 13-5 victory.
The Cougars got on the board in the top of the second, when ORU committed an error, allowing two runs. The Golden Eagles answered back in the bottom of the third, putting up three runs, including a two-run homer by Brandon King to take the 3-2 lead.
SUI-Edwardsville tied it up in the top of the fourth, but ORU again had a rebuttal, posting an additional two runs in response to once again take the narrow 5-3 lead.
ORU lost the lead in the top of the fifth when the Cougars notched two runs, but the Golden Eagles narrowed the lead with one run in the bottom of the sixth. The seventh inning proved to be the game-winner for the Golden Eagles when Chris Williams hit a grand slam to help his team break away.
ORU tacked on one additional run in the bottom of the eighth inning for good measure, wrapping up the first of three games between the two teams who meet again Saturday at 2 p.m.
