TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Eagles continued their unbelievable surge up the Summit League standings on Thursday as they knocked off IUPUI, 92-74.
Oral Roberts (16-14, 12-5) clinched a No. 2 seed for the conference tournament with the win, separating themselves by a game from the Jaguars (17-3, 11-6).
Even if IUPUI were to win its final game and ORU lose its final game to tie the teams in the standings, the Golden Eagles have the tiebreaker from the head-to-head win.
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (16-1 conference) have locked up the top spot.
After a rough non-conference schedule, ORU has won seven straight and 11 of its past 13.
Steven Roundtree scored a career-high 27 points, 21 of which came in the first half. His scoring spree helped the Golden Eagles to a 57-40 halftime lead and led by 11 or more the entire second half.
Roundtree shot an incredible 10-of-12 from the field and also had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Oral Roberts spread the scoring wealth as well, however, with Dominique Morrison putting up 21 points and Warren Niles adding 18.
ORU shot 55.6 percent from the field and 54 percent (7-13) from 3-point range.
It also doubled up the Jaguars’ rebounding total (40-20).
Oral Roberts will finish out the regular season at home on Saturday against Western Illinois. Tip time is set for 7:05 p.m.
