ORU’s Gonzalez Named Pitcher of Week

TULSA—Oral Roberts freshman Alex Gonzalez was named the Summit League Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league.

Gonzalez, a native of Boca Raton, FL made his first collegiate start last week against Baylor where he pitched six innings and managed four strikeouts, one walk and one earned run.

Gonzalez captures the honor after his first collegiate start last week. The right-hander made an impressive debut against No. 16 Baylor, pitching six innings with four strikeouts, one walk and one earned run.

Against No. 16 Baylor, Gonzalez struck out a pair of Baylor batters in the first inning and left the game with a 4-2 lead. Even though the Golden Eagles fell to the Bears, 5-4 in extra innings, Gonzalez performance earned him his first league honors.

Next up for the Golden Eagles (1-2) is Wichita State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
