TULSA, Okla. – Close was not good enough for the Golden Hurricane in a loss to Marshall on Sunday.
In a low-scoring affair, the Thundering Herd held off Tulsa 53-46 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Despite only scoring 46, three Tulsa players scored in double digits. Virginia DeWare had 14, Taleya Mayberry added 12 and Denise Lewis had 11 to score all but nine of their team’s points.
Mayberry made up most of Tulsa’s points in the first half, scoring 10 of the Golden Hurricane’s 15 first half points. She also had four field goals of her team’s six total in the first half. TU trailed 27-15 at the break.
The Golden Hurricane pulled to within five points several times and outscored Marshall 31-26 in the second half but could never fully close the gap.
Tynikki Crook led the Thundering Herd with 22 points and 13 boards.
Tulsa shot 39 percent from the field and 0-for-10 from 3-point range as it lost its ninth straight game.
The Golden Hurricane will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 24th at 6 p.m. on the road against East Carolina.
