TULSA, Oklahoma – University of Tulsa president Steadman Upham announced Thursday that the school has signed Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham to a new contract.

“Bubba and I have a great partnership, and his service to TU has been marked by exceptional progress by our student-athletes, including 31 Conference USA championships,” Upham said in a statement. “We’re on a roll and I’m confident we’ll continue to build on our remarkable momentum and national visibililty.”

The specific terms of Cunningham’s new contract were not disclosed, but it ensures that he will not leave the school. The Associated Press reported earlier in the week that he had been offered the athletic director position at the University of Kansas.

Cunningham has been Tulsa’s AD since October 2005 and has managed one of the school’s most successful stretches. In addition to 31 C-USA championships, the Golden Hurricane has also had 32 All-Americans, 18 Academic All-Americans and 624 Conference Honor Roll recipients.

Cunningham has also overseen several athletic facility improvements, including the construction of the Case Athletic Complex and the renovation of H.A. Chapman Stadium, in addition to the building of new facilities for the rowing, golf, and softball teams.
