NORMAN, Oklahoma -- For Quinton Carter, giving is simply second nature. The Oklahoma Sooners’ defensive back founded S.O.U.L., or Serving Others through Unity and Leadership, in his sophomore year of college.
The charitable organization serves both his community in the Norman and Oklahoma City area, and his hometown Las Vegas.
“He felt like he wanted to do more,” said friend Cecil Rose. “Instead of just saying, ‘Okay, we’re going to make an appearance here or do this,’ he wanted to say, ‘Okay, what lasting impact can I have?’”
For Thanksgiving, the OU senior prepared and served a meal for 500 people, including members of the Norman community, students and athletes.
The guests enjoyed the Thanksgiving feast, visited with each other and, of course, watched football. His giving nature comes from his family, who flew in to Oklahoma City from Las Vegas to help serve the Thanksgiving dinner.
“It’s sort of expected from him, knowing the type of person he is,” said his uncle, Danny Carter. “When he asks us to do something, we know the giving-type of person he is, so it’s easy for us to say, ‘Okay, we’ll come and do it.’”
Quinton Carter’s family not only realizes his passion for giving, backing him whenever he needs it.
“My family has always been like that, so it really doesn’t surprise me,” Quinton Carter said. “Every time I need something, I call and they’ll support me.”
