TULSA, Oklahoma – Despite the fact that TU was playing an obscure opponent to say the least, there were still reasons to be excited about its 80-48 exhibition victory over Missouri S&T on Monday.
Freshman guard Jordan Clarkson was one of those reasons, as he finished his impressive debut with 16 points, four boards and four assists. He was 6-of-7 from the floor and led all scorers on the night.
Missouri S&T – short for “Science and Technology” – remained competitive in the first half as Tulsa squeaked out just a 36-31 halftime lead.
But the Golden Hurricane outscored the Miners 44-17 in the second half to complete the rout.
Senior guard Justin Hurtt, a preseason First Team All-C-USA selection, finished with 14 points for TU and junior center Steven Idlet added nine points and eight boards.
Bryce Foster was the only Missouri S&T player to teach double figures with 13 points.
The Golden Hurricane will take on Arkansas – Ft. Smith in its final exhibition at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday in Tulsa.
