TULSA, Oklahoma – Former University of Tulsa star point guard Ben Uzoh’s professional basketball life officially begins Wednesday night. His New Jersey Nets will host the Detroit Pistons in Uzoh’s first regular season game.
“Yeah, I’m excited man,” Uzoh said in a text Monday afternoon. “Things are cool out here.”
Uzoh locked up the Nets’ final roster spot due to defense and effort, according to the team website. He played well in the NBA Summer League averaging 7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24.8 minutes over five games.
His attention to detail on defense, a pet peeve of new head coach Avery Johnson, earned Uzoh his dream job.
He joked that he has been doing a lot of chores around the team since he is the rookie on the roster, but was having fun as a pro.
