SPRINGDALE, Arkansas --Tulsa’s offense was kept in check by the Northwest Arkansas pitching staff in the Drillers’ season finale Tuesday as the Naturals cruised to a 9-0 win, after ending Tulsa’s playoff hopes a night earlier.
Northwest Arkansas’ (86-54) starter Eduardo Paulino (8-5) pitched a gem, allowing just three hits and no earned runs, while striking out five in his six innings of service. Conversely, Greg Reynolds was unable to keep the Naturals off the board for Tulsa (69-70), allowing five earned runs on eight hits in his five-inning outing.
Extra-base hits were the driving force behind Northwest Arkansas’ nine-run night, four of its 11 hits were doubles and responsible for driving in six of its nine runs.
The Naturals started off the game with back-to-back doubles, scoring their first run in the second at-bat of the game. Two batters later, Clint Robinson doubled to bring Anthony Seratelli home from third and take a 2-0 lead.
They tacked on seven more runs – three in the third, one in the fifth and three in the eighth – to end the Drillers’ season with a loss.
