OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma State Cowboys head into the new season seeking their fifth straight bowl appearance. OSU is minus a few good Cowboys entering the 2010 campaign. Zac Robinson, Russell Okung and Dez Bryant are seeking NFL pay checks this fall, leaving some doubts in the minds of the national media.

The preseason picks are not favoring Mike Gundy’s Cowboys very well. Sporting News magazine ranks the Cowboys at No. 64 in the country, with Tulsa, Northern Illinois and Temple ranked ahead of them. Rivals.com preseason projections put the Cowboys at No. 56, while Blue Ribbon College Football yearbook says OSU will finish fourth in the Big 12 South division.

The unkind words are going in one ear and out the other for OSU quarterback Brandon Weedon.

“That really doesn’t mean a whole lot to me. All we can control is what we do on Saturdays,” Weedon said.

Winning early and often will be the key to prove their critics wrong. The Cowboys open the season with four straight home games starting with Washington State and followed by Troy, Tulsa and Texas A&M. OSU could potentially begin the year 5-0 if it wins at Louisiana-Lafayette in early October.

The Cowboys may not be garnering national attention like they did last year, but they still are a solid pick to make the postseason for the fifth straight year.

CollegeFootballNews.com predicts OSU will face Northwestern in the Insight Bowl December 31st.

Stay tuned, more preseason predictions will soon pop up and rest assured the Cowboys will turn any negative football talk into more motivation.
