OKLAHOMA CITY -- Renowned college football analyst Phil Steele named the Oklahoma Sooners his Big 12 team of the past decade in his daily blog Thursday.
Steele noted that he named the Sooners the top team in the league despite having one less overall conference win over the 10-year span than the Texas Longhorns. He cited OU’s dominance of the conference title race and five-year dominance of the Longhorns in the Red River Shootout.
Oklahoma won six of the 10 conference titles since the new millennium, appeared in a bowl game in all 10 years – winning half – and won a national title in 2000. The Sooners also boasted two Heisman Trophy Winners in that span, Jason White in 2003 and Sam Bradford in 2008.
Steele has published a yearly college football magazine since 1995 and personally writes every article that appears in the magazine, and is recognized for the accuracy of his analysis and predictions. He also is a member of the All-America committee and four end-of-year position award committees.
