SPRINGFIELD, Missouri -- The Tulsa Drillers’ three-game win streak was snapped with a 6-3 loss to the Springfield Cardinals Friday.
The Drillers (25-32) took a 1-0 lead in the first innings on an Elder Torres RBI triple to score Charles Blackmon.
Springfield (30-29) responded with five unanswered runs to take a commanding lead.
The Cardinals’ first score came on a Chuckie Fick ground-rule double to bring Curt Smith home. Daryl Jones singled to left field in the next at-bat to score Pete Kozma home from third to take a 2-1 lead.
Tulsa pitcher Greg Reynolds (0-2) only lasted 1.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits for the Drillers.
The Cardinals added two more in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the second at-bat of the inning, Tyler Henley hit a ground-ball single to center to bring Steven Hill home and extend the lead to three runs. Kozma hit an RBI single two at-bats later to bring Henley home and take a 5-1 lead.
Daniel Mayora hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth to pull within two runs, but a Hill hit a solo home run to center field for Springfield to extend the lead to 6-3.
Chuckie Fick (1-0) was credited with a win for Springfield, after giving up one earned run on three hits in five complete innings.
Tulsa completes its road trip at 6:10 p.m. Saturday before returning home for a nine-game home stand against Northwest Arkansas and Arkansas.
