Billings Makes History for the Drillers

The Tulsa starting pitcher bettered Jim Blackburn's team record for consecutive scoreless innings Wednesday night.

TULSA, Oklahoma – Tulsa Drillers starting pitcher Bruce Billings made history Wednesday night in Springfield. The right-hander threw seven and 2/3 shutout innings and extended his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 39 innings. His performance passed Jim Blackburn's record of 37 2/3 scoreless innings set in 1950.

Billings is 5-3 this season with a 2.73 ERA. Opposing hitters are batting a trim .195 against him this season. Over his 11 starts, Billings has allowed just 19 runs while racking up 43 strikeouts in over 62 innings.

Billings helped Tulsa to a big road victory at Hammons Field. The Drillers are now 4-2 in the month of June.
