NORMAN, Oklahoma -- University of Oklahoma third baseman Garrett Buechele has been named the Big 12 Conference's baseball player of the week.
The Arlington, Texas native helped the Sooners extend their winning streak to seven games with five wins last week, including a sweep of a three-game series at Kansas.
Buechele hit .522 in the five games, recording at least two hits in each game, including non-conference wins over Arkansas and Texas Southern. Against Kansas, he hit .538 with five RBIs, two doubles and a home run.
The sophomore has 13 home runs on the season, fourth-best in the Big 12.
In the field, he hasn't committed an error in the Sooners' last 38 games. He leads Oklahoma in batting average, hits, doubles, runs and RBIs and is second on the team in homers.
Oklahoma finished second in the Big 12 and will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament this week in Oklahoma City.
