STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Cowboys beat the No. 21 Rice Owls Tuesday 12-5, the third time this season the team has knocked off a ranked team.
Davis Duren hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to further the Cowboys’ lead. The homer marked the sixth long ball of the season for Duren, who went 2-for-5 Tuesday.
He opened the game with a double for the Pokes (28-20), advancing to third on the next at-bat and was hit home when Mark Ginther singled to left field. Luis Uribe followed with a two-run homer.
Rice (30-17) answered back, posting a single run in the top of the second, but the Cowboys managed to pull ahead 5-1 with two additional runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Owls hit two home runs off pitcher Thomas Keeling, coming within two runs of OSU, but Oklahoma State battled back as Ginther hit a three-run home run to pull ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Rice put up two more runs in the top of the eighth, but was no match for Duren’s final inning long ball.
The Cowboys host Texas A&M in a three-game series scheduled for May 14-16.
