TULSA, Oklahoma -- In their first game in Tulsa since April 10, the Talons scored 14 unanswered points to top Alabama 62-56 and snap a two-game losing streak.
The Vipers scored two touchdowns in 90 seconds to take a 14-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
Tulsa capped off a six-play 48-yard scoring drive with a one-yard Odie Armstrong touchdown run four minutes later to score their first touchdown of the game.
Alabama quarterback Kevin Eakin connected with Larry Ship on a seven-yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds left in the half to take a commanding 28-13 lead.
Nearly halfway through the third quarter, Tulsa quarterback Justin Allgood threw touchdown passes to Donovan Morgan and Armstrong on back-to-back possessions to tie the game 35-35.
On the last play of the third quarter, Allgood threw his fifth touchdown of the contest – a 24-yard strike to Morgan – to score the first six points of 14-unanswered that Tulsa scored to take a 56-42 lead.
In the closing minute of the game, Vipers’ quarterback Tony Colston completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Larry Ship to pull within seven. But another Allgood to Morgan touchdown just 18 seconds later gave the Talons a 13-point lead.
Robert Durham took the ensuing kickoff down to the Tulsa 10-yard line to set up a short touchdown run by Colston to close the deficit to single digits once again. But the Talons ran out the clock on the next possession to end the game and claim a victory.
