DES MOINES, Iowa -- Oklahoma City survived a late scare to defeat Iowa 4-2 Saturday.
The Cubs had two on and two outs for Darwin Barney. But he could not convert and flied out to right to end the game.
Wes Bankston put the RedHawks on top 3-2 with a two-run homer in the top seventh. Oklahoma City added another insurance run in the eighth when Esteban German was able to score on a Cubs error.
Iowa scored both of its runs in fifth inning. Sam Fuld brought in James Adduci with a double to center. Fuld would come home on the next play. Barney hit a soft single to right to give the Cubs a 2-1 advantage.
Brandon Boggs scored the first run of the game in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly. Oklahoma City scored four runs on three hits. No RedHawks player had more than one hit.
Willie Eyre (1-2) earned the win in relief after giving up two earned runs in as many innings. Casey Coleman (2-3) took the loss after allowing three earned runs in seven innings.
The two teams continue their series at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
