HUNTINGTON, West Virginia -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane picked up two wins against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday.

The first win came when TU run-ruled Marshall 11-1. Freshman Caitlin Everett singled and advanced to second on the next pitch after Caitlyn Jackson balked. Samantha Cobb then homered to put the Golden Hurricane up, 2-0. It was the freshman’s 13th home run of the season.

Tulsa posted a single run in the top of the second after Skylar Swanson singled to hit home Cassidy Bowen. The Golden Hurricane put up another run in the third to gain a 3-0 lead over the Thundering Herd.

Jackson struggled at the pitching circle, loading the bases in the top of the fourth inning with Cobb up to bat. Cobb hit her second homer, a grand slam to left center. Jackson’s woes continued as she hit Vanessa Vice and walked Christian Timmons before Rachel Rillo stepped in to pitch.

The Thundering Herd had trouble containing TU, as the Golden Hurricane scored three more runs in the top of the fourth, but were able to answer back when they were up to bat. Freshman Jazmine Valle hit a home run, her 10th this season, to open the inning. It was the only run Marshall scored in the bottom of the fourth.

Jackie Lawrence (13-7) finished with the win after pitching five innings. She struck out six hitters and gave up only three hits.

The second win came with Jordan Kinard pitching. She threw for seven innings, giving up only three hits, while striking out 14 batters.

Tulsa put up two runs in the first inning, but Marshall answered back with one. After Lauren Menke hit a homer to make it a 3-1 game, both teams posted one run in the fifth. Tulsa sealed the win in the top of the seventh by scoring two more runs to end the game at 6-2.

The Golden Hurricane ends its season on Sunday with an 11 a.m. contest at Marshall.
