DENTON, Texas -- The Oklahoma softball team ended the regular season on a high note with a 6-1 victory over North Texas Thursday. The No. 12 Sooners finish the regular season with a 40-10 record.
Pitcher Keilani Ricketts helped her own cause by scoring a run and driving in two others. Ricketts (24-8) earned the win for the Sooners after going the distance, while striking out 10. She did a lot of damage at the plate, getting a hit in three of her four at-bats, including two RBIs.
Ricketts scored the game’s first run in the second inning off a Dani Dobbs single. Ricketts capped a three-run fifth inning for the Sooners with a two-run double to left center.
Lindsey Vandever preceded Ricketts double with an RBI single. Vandever was back at it in the seventh with a two-run double that put OU on top 6-1.
The Mean Green’s only run came in the bottom of the third; Mariza Martinez tripled to right field scoring Amber Miller to make it a 1-1 game.
Ashley Lail was tagged with the loss for UNT after allowing six runs (four earned) in six innings.
The Sooners Return to action in the Big 12 Tournament Friday, May 14 in Oklahoma City.
