Tulsa Shuts Out UTEP in Series Finale
The Golden Hurricane jumped out to an early lead and grabbed a series win over the Miners.

TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Golden Hurricane earned a series victory over Texas-El Paso with a 9-0 win, five-inning win on Sunday.
Jackie Lawrence (12-7) shut down the Miners’ (31-20), only giving up one hit and striking out six in her four innings of service.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, Vanessa Vice put the Golden Hurricane’s first run on the board with an RBI double to score Caitlin Everett. Vice advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Christian Timmons singled to first to give TU a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Vice hit another RBI double to score Lauren Lindsey and extend Tulsa's lead to three runs. In the next at-bat, Timmons doubled to left center to bring Vice and Samantha Cobb home.
Stacie Townsend (25-12) only lasted 2.1 innings for the Miners, giving up five earned runs on six hits.
Tulsa added four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth – three on the same play – to extend their lead to nine runs. Lawrence retired three of the next four batters to end the game early.
The Golden Hurricane closes out the regular season with a three-game weekend series with Marshall.
