STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Around 7,000 fans watched as the Oklahoma State Cowboys held their 2010 spring practice, showcasing the team’s new offense.
The biggest question coming into the Orange/White scrimmage was, “What would the new offense look like?”
The offense claimed the 55-39 victory, led by junior Brandon Weeden, who threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns.
“We looked good,” Weeden said. “I’m very pleased with the way our receivers played today. Our offensive line played great. I think today was one of the better days we’ve had in a while.”
Freshman Johnny Deaton completed 14 of his 18 passes and threw just one interception. He ended the scrimmage with 63 completion yards.
Clint Chelf completed six of his seven passes, throwing for 42 yards, while Brayden Stringer completed nine of his 14 passes, ending with 61 yards and one touchdown.
Josh Cooper led the Cowboys with seven catches for 53 yards. He scored one touchdown. Colton Chelf finished with 69 yards and one touchdown, while Tracy Moore caught five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Kendall Hunter made his return after sitting out much of the last season due to injury. He ran the ball four times, collecting 43 yards. The coaching staff has said they expect big things from the All-American running back.
"We were able to work fast and Coach Young’s done a great job of getting these guys lined up on the others side which enables us to play fast as well,” said offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. “We just have to be able to execute and go fast at the same time, which is not going to happen overnight.”
Jerry Reagan led the defense with seven tackles and a pass break-up. Joe Mitchell and Tolu Moala both recorded six, while LeRon Furr added five.
The Cowboys open their season September 4 when they host Washington State at Boone Pickens Stadium.
