TULSA, Oklahoma -- Steven Roundtree and Chris Angsomwine have signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball at Oral Roberts, ORU head coach Scott Sutton announced Friday.
A 6-7, 190-pound forward, Roundtree is currently completing his post-graduate year at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine.
“We’re pretty excited to able to sign a player of Steven’s caliber,” Sutton said in a statement released by the university. “We’ve been recruiting him for almost two years. He has a ton of potential. He’s a great athlete, a versatile player and in time he’ll be a great defender.”
Roundtree averaged 17.6 points and 6.9 rebounds in 29 games. He shot 56 percent from the field and 68 percent from the free-throw line. He led the Huskies in points, rebounds, steals and field-goal percentage.
“We’ve had a lot of success over the years with players like Steven, and we’ve looked hard to find a guy like him,” said Sutton. “He’s similar in many ways to players like Larry Owens and Yemi Ogunoye: he can play different positions and guard different positions. There’s no question he can come in and help us right away.”
A New England Preparatory School Athletic Council honorable mention selection, Roundtree’s best game of the season was a 30-point, 22-rebound effort against Bridgton Academy in January.
