TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa Drillers dropped to 1-4 on the season Monday night with a loss to the San Antonio Missions.
San Antonio (2-3) put four runs on the board in the top of the tenth inning to break the 1-1 tie and win the game. The inning started roughly for Drillers pitcher Al Alburquerque, who gave up a triple at the hands of Cedric Hunter. The Missions’ Andrew Parrino followed with a single to center, sending Hunter home to score. Alburquerque continued to struggle on the mound, walking Logan Forsythe and sending Parrino to second. Mitch Canham was thrown out on a sacrifice bunt, as Parrino advanced to third and Forsythe to second.
Alburquerque then faced loaded bases after walking James Darnell. The right-handed pitcher managed to strike out Sawyer Carroll, but gave up a single on the next at bat, allowing Parrino and Forsythe to score.
With Darnell on second, Luis Martinez hit a double to right field. Darnell scored to put the inning’s fourth Missions run on the board.
Previous to Alburquerque’s shaky inning, the game was tied at 1, with a run in the bottom on the fourth from the Drillers followed by a run in the top of the fifth by the Missions.
The two team will again face each other as part of a three-game series, concluding the string of games April 13 at 7:05 p.m.
