Sooners Grab Second Win over Texas A&M

Oklahoma took advantage of Aggie miscues to secure the series sweep.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Sooners softball team used a big sixth inning to take a commanding lead over Texas A&M to secure the 9-4 win.

Oklahoma (31-9, 4-2) took advantage of Melissa Dumezich’s (8-2) control issues in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. After loading the bases, Haley Nix singled to right to bring Karolyne Jones home. In the next at-bat, Dani Dobbs was hit by a pitchand Jessica Shults scoredon the play.

OU added two more in the top of the second on a two run home run by Amber Flores. That would end Dumezich’s day. She gave up just two hits, but allowed four earned runs in her 1 2/3innings of service.

The Aggies (32-11, 4-4) got on the board on a wild play in the third. Lauren Schwirtlich singled, advanced to second on the throw, and was thrown out at third. The play allowed Dumezich to score, though. TAMU would add one more in the next inning when Andrea Tovar scored on a ground out.

The Sooners would respond byadding five more runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Katie Norris was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and that allowed Keilani Rickets to score. Flores drove in two more runs with a single to center, giving her four RBIs for the day. Jessica Shults and Lindsey Vandever then added RBI singles of their own to expand the lead to five runs.

Ricketts (20-8) earned the victory, giving up only one hit and striking out seven of the 14 batters she faced in three innings of service.

Oklahoma comes back to Norman for a Thursday doubleheader with Texas Tech before a two-game weekend series with Texas.
