STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- A late-game rally resulted in two Oklahoma State homers Saturday to earn the No. 12 Cowgirls (34-7) a win over the Iowa State Cyclones (22-17).
The victory marked OSU’s 12th-straight win this season. First baseman Julie Ward and right fielder Megan Castle both hit one-run shots to earn the win.
Ward, who is batting .367 this season, added her eighth homer of the season with Saturday’s hit. She went 2-for-3, earning one RBI and one double. Castle, batting .257 this year, went 1-for-3.
Anna Whiddon (18-3) started for OSU, giving up six hits while striking out three batters. Kat Espinosa threw 1 2/3 innings to improve to 13-3 on the season.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth, when Iowa State’s Sydni Jones hit a homer to open the inning. The home run put the Cyclones up 1-0, while the Cowgirls struggled to respond in the bottom of the inning.
Iowa State’s Rachel Zabriskie recorded the loss after pitching 6 1/3 innings, giving up six hits, striking out three batters and giving up two home runs.
The Cowgirls will travel to Tulsa Wednesday night to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 6 p.m.
