NORMAN, Oklahoma – The No. 9 OU baseball team’s offensive woes continued with a second-consecutive shutout in a 2-0 loss to rival No. 7 Texas Friday.
The Sooners (22-5) mustered just three hits after registering four in their 5-0 loss to Texas Thursday. OU’s best chance to score came in the bottom of the seventh when its first two batters reached base safely, but the Sooners could not manufacture any runs.
Elliot Blair tried twice to move the runners up with a bunt, but failed to do so both times. He proceeded to strike out for the first out of the inning. Caleb Bushyhead followed by flying out, and Danny Black could not get to first in time to beat out a ball that was muffed by the Longhorns’ first baseman. The Sooners did not record a hit for the rest of the night.
Cole Green pitched 7.2 innings of shutout ball for Texas and struck out six, and Chance Ruffin closed the game without giving up a hit. Bobby Shore had a strong outing for OU, surrendering just three hits in seven innings and giving up both runs in the second inning.
The Sooners’ scoring drought comes after they scored a total of 39 runs in their two previous games. They have now lost back-to-back contests for the first time this season, and their losses in the first two games of the series guarantee that their drought in the Red River Rivalry will continue. OU has not won a series over Texas since 1998.
