STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State lost the first game of its double header with Alabama A&M 6-5, but got retribution in the second game with a 26-0 domination of the Bulldogs.
In the first game, the Cowboys got on the board first, thanks in part to quality base running by David Duren. After reaching on a single, Duren stole two bases and scored when Kevin David doubled to center to bring him home.
The Bulldogs tied the game up in the top of the third when Kency Duarte singled to left field to bring Lamar Bridges home. Deon Hall reached on a single and stole second. Then Davion Rucker singled to right to bring Hall and Duarte home, giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.
Alabama A&M expanded its lead to 5-1 in the fourth when LaDale Hayes singled to left field to bring Norbert Riggins and Ronquis Jefferson home.
OSU closed the gap to two in the fifth when Tom Belza drove in Duren and David with a single. Dane Phillips followed with a single to right that brought Belza home and closed the deficit to 5-4. Duren then tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single.
After neither team scored in the ninth inning, Duarte won the game for the Bulldogs in the 10th with an RBI single down the left field line.
In the second game, the Cowboys were dominant in all facets. Starting pitcher Kevin Chambers pitched six innings of one hit baseball and struck out 15 of the 20 batters he faced.
Oklahoma State’s offense got on the board early and often, but did most of its work in the sixth. The Cowboys scored 12 of their 26 runs in the bottom of the sixth frame, mostly off of base hits. Mark Ginther had the only only homerun in the inning.
The Cowboys finish their series against Alabama A&M in Stillwater Wednesday.
