OKLAHOMA CITY -- Children from the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County showed their appreciation of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kyle Weaver Tuesday for his help with academics, leadership and activities.
The children, who are known as the “Weaver’s Achievers,” have a close bond with the guard, who has been active in the organization since his own childhood.
“Kyle is such a positive role model for our club members,” said Douglas Gibson, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County.
Weaver credits the Boys and Girls Club for making him who he is today. The organization offers children a safe place to learn and grow through games, activities and mentorships.
“When Kyle comes to the club, he’s just a generous, caring adult who invests his time with our members and celebrates their success.”

Weaver’s involvement with the club didn’t end at his childhood. While attending Washington State University, he officiated basketball games, and got involved with the local chapter when he was signed by the Thunder.
The children quickly realized Weaver was one of them, taking to the 6-foot-6 mentor.
“Young people can spot a phony and won’t have anything to do with them,” Gibson said. “It’s hard to think of Kyle as a ‘celebrity guest.’
The children’s appreciation of Weaver was apparent, as they presented him with a video, created by 17-year-old Noah Jackson.
