BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Tulsa softball team split a doubleheader with Alabama-Birmingham in two close contests Saturday.
The Golden Hurricane came back to win the first game of the day 5-4. UAB led for the majority of the game, but a three-run sixth inning gave TU a 4-3 lead. Tulsa extended that lead to 5-3 with a run in the seventh and held back a push by UAB in the bottom of the inning to finish off the win.
Lauren Menke led the Hurricane with two RBIs in the game, while Lauren Lindsay and Samantha Cobb each added solo home runs. Jackie Lawrence pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs and striking out seven. Tulsa committed three errors, which led to two unearned runs.
The Blazers got their revenge in the second game, winning in much the same way that Tulsa won the opener. TU took the lead with two runs in the second inning and held on to it until the fifth.
The Hurricane extended its advantage to 3-1 with another run in the fifth, but UAB scored three in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Neither team could score in the final two innings, and the Blazers escaped with a 4-3 victory.
Cassidy Bowen led TU with two RBIs in the second game, and Lauren Lindsay added another solo home run. Jordan Kinard pitched four strong innings, but was chased after the three-run fifth and came away with the loss.
The two teams will finish their three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
