TULSA, Oklahoma – Oral Roberts earned its first ever three seed in the Summit League tournament after posting a 13-5 league mark this year. The Golden Eagles will match up with North Dakota State Sunday night in a conference first round game.
The Golden Eagles are making their 13th consecutive appearance in the Summit League Tournament. ORU won three consecutive championships from 2006 to 2008, and finished second in the league in both 1999 and 2005. If the Golden Eagles win the league title this season, they will join Valparaiso as the only other Summit League team to win four conference championships.
The Golden Eagles’ first round matchup against the Bison will be the third meeting between the two teams this season. Oral Roberts won by six in Fargo back in the beginning of January and topped the Bison 71-57 at home later that month.
Sophomore swingman Dominique Morrison combined for 31 points and 15 rebounds against NDSU in the first two meetings. Summit League Newcomer of the YearMichael Craion scored 20 points against the Bison at the Mabee Center.
Over the last five seasons ORU is 11-2 in Summit League tournament play. They have made it to at least the semifinal round in nine of their previous 12 tournament appearances. Head coach Scott Sutton is 14-7 all-time in Summit League tournament games.
The men’s league tournament kicks off Saturday March 6th a 6 p.m. ORU plays Sunday night at 8:30.
