OKLAHOMA CITY -- Most people could have described it as a trap game. The bottom-dwelling New York Knicks came to town with the San Antonio Spurs looming on the horizon.
But the Thunder wasn’t part of that group, and handily took care of the Knicks 106-88, and capped off an impressive stretch, winning eight of its last 10 games.
Oklahoma City dominated early, and jumped out to a 16 point first-half lead over New York, led by the usual suspects; Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook shot a perfect 5-5 from the field in the first half and made both of his free throws on the way to a 12 point first half. He finished the game with 17 points and five assists.
Durant led all scorers, and scored 20 of his 30 points in the first half, attacking the interior of the New York defense, drawing fouls and converting on 11 of 12 free throws in the opening 30 minutes.
The diminutive dynamo Nate Robinson continued to be one of the only positives about a struggling Knick team, scoring a team-high 19 points, but only shooting 2-6 from 3-point range. Fifth-year center David Lee struggled from the floor all night, scoring 11 points, but doing it on a 5-18 shooting night.
Oklahoma City next hosts the San Antonio Spurs Jan. 13 at the Ford Center.
