HOUSTON -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane picked up its first road win of the season after taking down the Houston Cougars 86-80 Saturday night.
The win was the first for the school in Houston since February 9th, 1963.
Tulsa entered the game 0-3 away from Oklahoma and had lost by an average of 14 points per game. Ben Uzoh led the way for TU. The senior guard poured in 21 points and four assists. Uzoh has now scored 20 or more points in eight of Tulsa’s 15 games this season.
Justin Hurtt and Jerome Jordan joined Uzoh in double –figures. The trio finished with 60 of Tulsa’s 86 points. Jordan was held to a season-low tying four rebounds.
Aubrey Coleman did his best to keep the Cougars in the game. The senior scored a game-high 25 points. Kelvin Lewis and Maurice McNeil also scored double-digit points. Houston’s bench outscored Tulsa’s by three.
Tulsa, a preseason favorite to win the Conference USA crown, is now 2-0 in league play. The Golden Hurricane will hit the road out of conference this Wednesday when they make the eight mile bus ride across Tulsa to take on cross-town rival Oral Roberts.
