Tulsa Hands Oklahoma State First Loss in Blowout

TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma State men’s basketball team began the season on a six-game winning streak, but Tulsa ended that in resounding fashion with an 86-65 win Wednesday.

The Golden Hurricane (6-1) started quickly and never let up. It scored 46 points in the first half and carried a 15-point lead into halftime, then outscored OSU (6-1) again in the second half.

“We’re being judged on these kinds of games, and we got it done tonight,” TU guard Ben Uzoh said. “We definitely wanted it more.”

Justin Hurtt led the Golden Hurricane with 21 points, and five different TU players scored in double figures. Bishop Wheatley scored a career-high 17, Uzoh and Jerome Jordan scored 11 and Steven Idlet added 13 off the bench.

Ray Penn led the Cowboys with 21 points, while Marshall Moses scored 13 and James Anderson and Matt Pilgrim each added 10.

The Golden Hurricane shot lights out all night, making more than 55 percent of all field goals and more than 56 percent of its 3-pointers. Uzoh and Hurtt combined to go 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, OSU struggled to make baskets. The Cowboys made less than 40 percent of their shots and went just 4-of-16 from long range. Penn was the only Oklahoma State player to make more than one 3-pointer.

“We just got it handed to us tonight, and got beat by a very good team that was very well coached,” said OSU head coach Travis Ford. “They took it to us, plain and simple.”
