LAWRENCE, Kansas – Three years to the day after the Oral Roberts’ men’s basketball team shocked Kansas, the women’s basketball team attempted the same feat in Lawrence. The Golden Eagles were unable to keep up with No. 20 Jayhawks, though, and fell 106-80.
Janae Voelker, a Kansas native, scored a career-high 29 points for the Golden Eagles on 10-of-18 shooting. Voelker fell just short of a double-double with nine rebounds and extended her double-digit scoring streak to 42 consecutive games. Kevi Luper also turned in an impressive performance with 24 points.
The Golden Eagles struggled on defense in the first half, allowing 64 points to the host team. Oral Roberts had no answer in the paint and was outrebounded by a 28-15 margin.
ORU cut the Kansas lead to 14 with a 12-4 run after the break, but turnovers plagued the Golden Eagles after that run and the Jayhawks pulled away.
Danielle McCray recorded a double-double for Kansas with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Aishah Sutherland added 24 points.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday at 12:00 p.m. against LaSalle.
