TULSA, Oklahoma -- A sellout crowd of 30,000 was reported at Chapman Stadium for Tulsa’s showdown against No. 6 Boise State. The Golden Hurricane fell short on the field 28-21 to the Broncos. But TU fans did not let the rainy weather dampen their spirit.
Despite the fact that an NBA preseason game was being played at the BOK Center, Tulsa fans still came out in full force, hoping to see their team pull of a historic upset.
"I'm proud of our fans," head coach Todd Graham said."That's the best atmosphere I've ever seen at the University of Tulsa."
The players knew that fan support would be very critical if they were to pull of the upset Wednesday evening. The team thanked the fans for coming out and doing their part.
"It was the best since I've been here. The fans came out and did a good job, and at times when we were down, they just helped push us over that edge," wide receiver Damaris Johnson said.
TU fans will have to watch their team on television next week as the Golden Hurricane travels to UTEP for another nationally televised Wednesday contest. The good news for TU and their fans is that four of their final six games will be played in Chapman Stadium. The homefield advantage will be critical if TU is to pull off the goal Todd Graham has told his team about from day one: winning the Conference USA championship.
