STILLWATER, Oklahoma – After the defense led the Oklahoma State Cowboys last week, defense was the downfall for the Cowboys against Houston, losing 45-35 at home. The Cowboys gave up 513 total yards to the Cougars, 367 passing and 146 rushing, giving the Cougars their first road win against a top 10 opponent in 25 years.
Quarterback Case Keenum proved to be too much for the Cowboys defense, passing for 376 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to running for a touchdown. Cougar sophomore wide receiver Tyron Carrier torched the OSU secondary for 112 yards on seven receptions and a touchdown.
The Cowboys offense was unable to get going when they needed to, perhaps due to the loss of running back Kendall Hunter late in the first half due to an ankle injury. Stepping in for the Cowboys, and perhaps the brightest spot, was senior running back Beau Johnson, who ran for 72 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Josh Cooper stepped up for the Cowboys, especially in their second half comeback attempt, accounting for 64 yards and his first collegiate touchdown.
The Cowboys will try to rebound next week at home against Rice.
