TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa will be home to a new teacher training institute next year. Teach For America is opening its newest site in June of 2012.
More than 600 teachers will call Tulsa home, teaching summer school programs at Tulsa Public Schools and Community Action Project, while attending courses and living at the University of Tulsa.
"By hosting Teach For America's institute, we are giving the summer program at Tulsa Public Schools a tremendous boost, not just in helping to positively impact student achievement, but also an emotional boost for our staff and students," said Keith Ballard, superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools. "There is something energizing about this group of young people that is infectious. We can't wait to get started."
Teach For America recruits, trains, and supports college grads who commit to teaching in low-income communities for two years. The organization has been placing teachers in Tulsa since 2009.
