TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Public Schools is trying to poll the parents of all 41,000 TPS students as the district prepares to make critical decisions about shutting down schools.
TPS says a survey went home in backpacks Wednesday. That survey is also available online, in both English and Spanish.
The district is battling a shrinking budget, and says drastic measures are needed.
"We are keenly interested in what parents and the community have to say about educational priorities at Tulsa Public Schools," said Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard. "We will use the information collected from this survey to guide the decision-making process as we move toward making a final recommendation to the Board."
"I cannot emphasize enough the need for every TPS parent to share their thoughts," Ballard added.
The deadline for returning the surveys is Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 5 p.m.
The district won't say which schools are on the chopping block, but plan to release three consolidation proposals by next Tuesday.
