TULSA, Oklahoma -- A section of Tulsa's River Parks trail will be under construction as almost $537,000 in improvements are made. Construction starts this week on the east bank of the Arkansas River between 53rd and 58th Streets.

It's the latest section to receive improvements like separate lanes for bicyclists and pedestrians, lighting, benches and water fountains.

"All improvements on Riverside along the River Parks trail are tremendously positive developments for our community," said Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett.

The River Parks trail between 53rd and 58th Streets is one of the last remaining pieces of the widening project constructed during the past few years between 11th Street and 71st Street. The trail is complete between 11th and 48th streets, and between 58th and 71st streets.

The current section was postponed until the city completed a sanitary sewer project in the same location.

The construction project will be handled by Tri-Star Construction and should be finished by this July.
