BIXBY, Oklahoma -- A 24-year-old Broken Arrow man is dead after a car crash just east of Bixby early Thursday morning.

Bixby Police say they noticed the victim driving his car at a high rate of speed south on Mingo at about 2 a.m.

Officers say they gave chase, but lost him. A short time later, they found the car on its top near 142nd Street South and Mingo.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says it appears John Mathew lost control of the car as the road curved.  The car hit a tree stump, went airborne and landed on its top.

Mathew was pronounced dead at the scene.

The OHP says Mathew's car was going about 100 mph at the time of the crash and that he was not wearing his seat belt.
