TULSA, Oklahoma -- A California firm announced Friday it plans to construct a new steel pole plant in Tulsa.

In a news release, Ameron International Corporation says the facility is expected to cost about $35 million and should be operational within two years.

Once completed, Ameron Pipe Pole division president John Szabo says it will employ 50 additional employees.

The 75,000-square-foot facility will include a proprietary manufacturing process and when fully operational the facility would have an annual sales capacity of up to $75 million.

"This investment represents a significant strategic growth opportunity in a market with which we have experience. With the new plant, we will have a cost-efficient, state-of-the-art manufacturing process and the capacity to grow the business," said James S. Marlen, Ameron's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The release says the new Tulsa plant will focus on the national transportation infrastructure market for applications, such as highway lighting, traffic signal control structures, light rail, high mast and smart grid structures, and highway signage.

This would be the second plant in Tulsa and will be located on 25 acres in the Cherokee Industrial Park, just south of the Whirlpool plant.

The company already has a plant in Tulsa at 2333 South Yukon.
