TULSA, Oklahoma -- Don't throw away those soup cans! The City of Tulsa is now accepting steel and aluminum food cans as a new recyclable for 2011.

Tulsans who subscribe to the city's recycling program can now add the cans to their green bins – after rinsing them thoroughly.

Items now accepted for recycling include:

  • Aluminum
  • No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles with lids removed
  • Clear, brown and green glass
  • Paper and newspapers – be sure to place in a separate sack or container so liquids from the other items don't contaminate the paper

Recycling bins should be set at the curb by 6 a.m. on your household's designated days. If the bin has not been emptied by 6 p.m., call the City at 596-2100 for the Mayor's hotline or the recycling line at 596-9777.
