OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police are investigating a heart-breaking case of animal abuse.
Someone stuffed a puppy inside a box, taped it shut, and then threw it into a dumpster at an Oklahoma City apartment complex.
A groundskeeper heard the 14-week old puppy's cries and rescued her. The shepherd, pitbull mix was sick, malnourished and dehydrated. She also had hook worms and was running a fever.
A man at the apartment is taking care of the little girl he's named "Kory."
He said the dog shows signs of abuse like keeping her tail tucked between her legs.
"She won't lift it up. It's a confidence thing. She will wag her tail, but she wags it between her legs because she's afraid to show affection," said Curtis Whitener, Kory's caregiver.
Animal welfare is investigating. The person responsible could face up to five years in prison.
