Since Tuesday, one of the three, Craig Buthod, director of the Louisville Free Public Library withdrew, leaving the commission with two finalists.
In a news release, Shaffer started out in advertising for nationally-known brands before a life-changing conversation with a friend changed his career direction and reacquainted him with his love of libraries.
After receiving his MLIS degree he was named in 2006 as one of the 50 Movers and Shakers shaping libraries by Library Journal.
Currently he sits on the board of the Public Library Association.
Library officials say Shaffer will assume his new duties Jan. 5, 2011 pending a successful background check and salary and benefit negotiations.
