TULSA, Oklahoma – A bicyclist was taken to the hospital in serious condition late Wednesday night after he was hit by a car in midtown Tulsa, Tulsa Police said.
On Friday, Tulsa police identified the victim as Larry Ray Simpkins, 55.
It happened about 10:45 p.m. at 49th and Peoria.
The man was riding on Peoria when he was hit by a car driving north. The driver of the car told officers she never saw the victim.
"The biggest problem we have with bicyclists is they don't have reflectors and white lights on the front of their bicycle," said Sergeant Bryan Bryden. "Makes it harder for them to be seen when they're riding in darkness."
Police said they don't believe alcohol played a factor in the accident.
A block of Peoria was closed for a few hours until the scene was cleared.
