TULSA, OKLAHOMA – Volunteers rolled up their sleeves for the Tulsa United Way's Day of Caring Friday.

More than three thousand volunteers took part in hundreds of community service projects around town.

One project included putting a rain garden in at Remington Elementary.

"Rather than letting the water run off to the creeks, it'll be trapped and soaked into the ground," said Kevin Gustavson, Oklahoma Conservation Commission.

Gustavson said the rain garden at Remington Elementary is the first major one in the Tulsa area, though he hopes more will be built.

Tulsa public works employees as well as Tulsa Public Schools and IBM workers helped make the environmentally-friendly garden a reality.
