CLAREMORE, OK---August 28th and 29th the Claremore Dog Expo 2010 will be held at the Claremore Expo Center. One exhibitor, Blake Etter of Claremore is busily baking pet treats at Aye Chihuahua Pet Bakery and Boutique.
‘We're doing at least 4-dozen more of the high-protein bones, 4-dozen more of the peanut butter bones,' said Blake, ‘so we'll do at least 4-dozen more of the items we have in stock, so I have my work ahead of me for this weekend.'
Etter's boutique also sells small dogs who were watching intently as he prepared baked goods for the expo. He shared some of his favorite recipes and encouraged baking for pets.
‘Follow the recipe and watch the oven,' he said, ‘you don't want to burn the cookies, but other than that the dogs are going to love it.'
Peanut Butter Bones Recipe
2 Tablespoons corn oil
¼ cup honey
¼ cup peanut butter
1 cup water
3 cups flour whole wheat or white
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour the corn oil in a measuring glass first, then add the honey. This way the honey will not stick to the glass. Pour into a mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients, mixing well into a firm dough. Roll the dough to ¼" thickness and cut with a cookie cutter. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Makes about 2 dozen.
