Tulsa Man Drowns In Skiatook Lake

TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa man drowned at about 9 p.m. Saturday while trying to swim across Skiatook Lake. Verdell L. Schoats, 40, got about 25 yards out from shore when he started to struggle, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Family members tried to rescue Schoats, but he went under in the rescue attempt and did not resurface.

Schoats' body was recovered at about 11:30 p.m.

On Sunday, crews recovered the body of a 48-year-old Blackwell man suspected of drowning in the Chikaskia River Friday evening just north of Blackwell, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
