TULSA, OK -- At Thursday night's city council meeting, councilors unanimously approved a crackdown on deadbeat property owners.

The city of Tulsa is stepping up penalties for owners of abandoned buildings, people who let their lawns grow wild and folks who won't clean up graffiti.

The maximum penalty is a fine of $1,000 a day and six months in the Tulsa County jail.

One councilor - Chris Trail - acknowledged a double standard, noting the city can't afford to keep up with mowing or graffiti cleanup.
